About Rachel

Rachel Waugh has an M.F.A. in fiction writing from the University of Maryland, where she taught creative and academic writing. She also holds an MST in education from The New School, and an MA in English language and literature from the University of Glasgow, Scotland.

She wrote a column for the New York Daily News, and has also written for Discovery Channel Books, Wondertime Magazine, and The Huffington Post. She was an assistant editor at Scholastic, Inc., and has written extensively for Scholastic publications.

A chapter of her novel in progress, The Sugar Factory, was published in Narrative Magazine in 2025. She recently left teaching to write full time, and now writes every day.

She moved from London to New York at 25 with $200 and a suitcase. She lives in Maryland with her husband, two kids and a dog.
